VLP 2001 BRINSLEY SCHWARZ LIVE FAVOURITES LP 01.2018

Red vinyl version. Brinsley Schwarz released a string of great pub rock albums in
the early 1970s, which never achieved the success they deserved. Recognition came
after the group's split, when Nick Lowe and Ian Gomm both scored UK and US hits, and
Bob Andrews and name giver Brinsley Schwarz joined Graham Parker & The Rumour.
"Live Favourites" was recorded just after the band recorded its Dave Edmunds produced
swansong 'New Favourites'.

Fleetwood Mac were formed in July 1967 in London, England, when Peter Green left the
British blues band John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers. Peter Green had previously
replaced guitarist Eric Clapton in the Bluesbreakers and had received critical acclaim
for his work on their album 'A Hard Road'. Fleetwood Mac's self-titled debut album
was a no-frills blues album and was released by the Blue Horizon label in February
1968. The band recorded several radio broadcasts, many of which were released on
the album 'Live At The BBC'. However, many tracks were not included because they
were thought lost. They had, in fact, survived, albeit in some cases in rather
lo fi. Nevertheless, the surviving recordings have been loving restored and mastered
and complied for this album. Besides some outstand blues there's also rock'n'roll,
psychedelic jams and even Fleetwood Mac backing Eddie Boyd on 'Where You Belong'.

The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (also known as The Bonzo Dog Band) was created by a group
of British art-school students in the 1960s. Combining elements of music hall, trad
jazz and psychedelic pop with surreal humour and avant-garde art, the Bonzos came to
the public attention through a 1968 ITV comedy show, 'Do Not Adjust Your Set'. Their
hit single, 'I'm The Urban Spaceman' was produced by Paul McCartney, they appeared
in The Beatles' 'Magical Mystery Tour' film and recorded lots of radio sessions that
feature unique versions of songs from their albums. This album is comprised of those
historical radio broadcasts. Long thought lost, they have been loving restored and
mastered and complied for this album. The album includes previously unreleased

Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen was born in 1934. An early writer and
guitarist, Cohen began to compose and release folk-rock and pop songs by the mid
-1960s. One of his most famous compositions is 'Hallelujah,' a song released on
1984's 'Various Positions'. Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
in 2008, and he received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement in 2010. Cohen
died in 2016 at the age of 82. In 1968, Cohen recorded a live concert for radio
broadcast that comprises this album. These well-preserved sessions from 1968 offer
a fly-on-the-wall experience to witness a young Cohen singing practically the entire
first album. The voice is fresh and deep, pushing the songs outside the 'Tin Pan
Alley' perimeter, and delving into poetry with a richness of words and subject.
Today, they still have that raw appeal of a young artist at the peak of his powers.

album, 'Open', was released in 1967 on Marmalade Records but they didn't attract
attention until the release of their single, 'This Wheel's On Fire,' in the spring
of 1968, which preceded the appearance of the song on the Band's 'Music From Big Pink'
album. They recorded several sessions for British radio and European television which
comprise this album. Besides featuring a unique live in the studio version of their
hit, this album also includes a rare live version of Lennon and McCartney's psych
classic 'A Day In The Life'.

Taste (originally "The Taste") was formed in Cork, Ireland, in August 1966 as a trio
consisting of Rory Gallagher on guitar and vocals, Eric Kitteringham on bass, and
Norman Damery on drums. In 1968 Taste began performing in the UK where the original
line-up split up. The new line-up formed with Richard McCracken on bass and John
Wilson on drums. The new Taste moved permanently to London where they signed with
the record label Polydor. In April 1969, Taste released the first of their two studio
albums, the self-titled 'Taste', with 'On The Boards' following in early 1970, the
latter showing the band's jazz influences with Gallagher playing saxophone on numerous
tracks. Taste recorded three sessions for John Peel's 'Top Gear' programme between
1968 and 1969. Nine songs from those sessions are featured on this disc. In addition,
two live recordings broadcast on Dutch television on 22 August 1969 are also included.

Love Sculpture was Dave Edmunds, David William Edwards and John David. When they
recorded 'Sabre Dance' for John Peel, who was so impressed that he played it twice
in one programme, on 6th October 1968, it became an unexpected hit. At the time the
band had only recorded it as a session track, but, as producer Bernie Andrews recalled
(in Ken Garner, The Peel Sessions, p.57), after Peel had enthused over it, the piece
was re-recorded and rush-released by Parlophone Records and reached number five in
the singles chart, eight weeks after being first heard on Top Gear. Love Sculpture
recorded three sessions, made up mainly of blues and rock'n'roll cover versions,
for Peel, two in 1968 and one in 1969, but were unable to repeat the success of their
only hit, despite attempting another rock version of a classical piece, Georges
Bizet's 'Farandole', in their final session. This album contains all but one of the
songs they recorded for John Peel. After they split up, leader Dave Edmunds continued
to perform in a rock'n'roll influenced style, had a successful career in the 1970s
both as a solo artist and with his group Rockpile, and picked up airplay on Peel's
shows.

The Beatles 'Radio & Television Archives Vol. 2 - 1962-64' compiles the best of
their unreleased radio and television broadcasts onto one compact disc. In volume
one (sold out) Vogon sourced the best sounding studio recordings available.
On this outing they have focused on the best of The Beatles live radio and television
recordings to compile an album ladened with many of The Beatles greatest hits and
rarely heard alternative arrangements and vocal performances that were recorded
exclusively for radio and television. The album features some of The Beatles
earliest radio recordings made in March 1962 all the way to their appearance at
the NME Poll Winners Concert two short years later in April 1964. Highlights
include live recordings of 'Picture Of You', 'Twist And Shout', 'She Loves You',
'Can't Buy Me Love' and many more.
