We all know and love Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith now after excellent albums such as Ears
(2016) and The Kid (2017). Tides: Tides: Music for Meditation and Yoga was recorded
in 2013 when Smith was finding her feet as a composer. After experimenting with
various instruments and her voice, she settled on the Buchla 100 modular synth.
This shows Smith’s burgeoning talent or original electronic composition.

Before Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith started wowing us all were her synth-made electronic
compositions she was in Ever Isles, an indie-folk duo, with Jeremy Harris. She played
classical guitar in the band. One day she discovered a particular modular synth - the
Buchla 100 - she left the band to follow a different musical path. Cocoon is the only
album they made.
